FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

January flew by!  The students had a great time with the mealworms and are anxiously awaiting to see their little beetle. Our school received a grant on bullying. Our students have been learning that there all types of bullying. We made anti-bullying posters, did some role playing, gave our friends compliments, and learned a song that they will sing at Flag Raising.

Summary of February's Curriculum

Language Arts - We are continuing to write friendly letters using the correct punctuation and capitalization.  February is the month for poetry.  We will be expressing ourselves through couplets, Haikus,
color poems, and many more.

Reading
The literature books that we are reading are Funny Frank, Aliens for Breakfast, and
Chalk Box Kid.  Later in the month the students will do a unit on Aesop's Fables.  The students will compare and contrast many of the fables and they will learn to write a prequel and a sequel to some of the fables.

Math
The students had fun learning about measurement.  They measured inches, feet, yards,
centimeters, and meters. They are ready to learn about capacity.  They will make GallonBot" in order to help them understand cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. Later this month we will
start our unit on graphing.

Science
The students will learn all about their body.  We will do various activities and study the
nervous, digestive, muscular, and circulatory systems.

Social Studies
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln are just two of the presidents that we will honor
and learn about this month.  We will also learn more about our nation's symbols.

On  Tuesday, February 14th we will have our Valentine's Day party.  For our party I would like each student to decorate their own Valentine box.  Bring it to school on the morning of the party.  Be Creative!

Thanks again for everyone's help and support.  Please encourage your children to memorize their lines for
the play.
