This school year is going way faster than expected. It's December already!The third graders are busy as usual. In language arts, we’re working on 'verbs' and getting ready to take a test. In vocabulary, our units are 'sensory words' and ‘concept words’. We've already finished the alphabet in cursive writing and are practicing writing sentences in cursive. Kids love the on line  reading comprehension program. Spelling and Sitton tests are taking place regularly. In reading groups, the 'Cheetah' group is reading 'The Report Card', the 'Horse' group is reading 'Judy Moody' and the 'Ostrich' group is reading 'Shark Tooth Tale'. We are working on writing about the month of December. Students are writing friendly letters as well.Math is always very exciting to third graders. We're currently working on a variety of units. We've finished geometry and division facts, and will start division with remainder shortly. Simultaneously, we're working on units 'money', 'input/output' in algebra, ‘fractions’, and 'probability’. We are solving story problems regularly to strengthen our critical thinking skills.In Social Studies, our current units are 'States' and ‘Government’. The upcoming science units will be ‘Solar System’ and ‘Plants’.  Third graders are also busy with several holiday projects that they plan to finish before winter break.Third grade snack shack will start in January. This is a fundraiser program for our field trip to the Kartchner Caverns.HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

 

 

In February we celebrate Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day. The students will be involved in various activities for reading, writing, and math related to those days. Activities include biography, independent research, reading comprehension, word search, survey and graphing, Venn diagram and much more.

 

Here are the other plans:

 

Math: We are finishing up division with remainder and will start decimal, measurement, and combinations shortly.

 

Language Arts: Lots of vocabulary practice, spelling games, reading comprehension passages, writing letters and paragraphs, and handwriting worksheets are keeping the 3rd graders busy throughout the day.

 

Science and Social Studies: We are finishing up learning about the Government in Social Studies.  ‘Learning about Plants’ and ‘Solar System’ are the next units for science.

 

We are working hard and taking a lot of multiple choice tests to prepare for the upcoming AIMS Test.

 

Third graders are eagerly waiting for their upcoming field trip to the Desert Botanical Garden on February 6th.

 

Snack Shack is extremely popular among all students. Thanks to all of the third grade parents and volunteers for their donations and help.
