We are off to a good start and Parent Night was a huge success.  Thanks so much for your donations
and for volunteering for the various jobs.

An Overview of September:

Language Arts - We will continue to work on the four types of sentences and use them in our writing.
The last two weeks will be devoted to nouns.  The students will learn how to make
nouns plural by adding 's', 'es', and changing 'y' to 'i' and adding 'es'.  They
will also learn about proper nouns.

Reading -       Freckle Juice, Chalk Box Kid, and Hill of Fire are the books that we will read this
month.  We will focus on fluency and comprehension.  The students have already been
using their dictionaries to find guide words and definitions.

Math -          We have been working on place value to 1000, greater than and less than, and addition
with regrouping. They have all been working on Study Island to reinforce their math
                skills.

Social Studies  We made passports and have been studying about the continents.  They are becoming aware
of longest rivers, highest mountains, the Great Lakes, and the largest deserts in the world.
Then the students will learn more about their heritage.  We will end the unit by having
Heritage Day. Several parents have already volunteered to share items and information about
their country.  Heritage Day is planned for September 30th.  Everyone is welcome to come.

Science -       The students are taking the role of several scientists.  They have been paleontologist and
have discovered how to do an archaeological investigation.  They also had fun working with
fingerprinting. They are now getting ready to study inventors. They will enjoy the Wright
Brothers and making airplanes. We will have fun studying Henry Ford. The students will work
on an assembly line making a small car that they can later eat.

Thanks again for all of your support, gifts, and help.  It is great teaching such wonderful children.
