The month of February is going to be a fun and fast one!!!
In reading, the students will be continuing in their leveled groups. We are learning all about vowel diagraphs, combinations, long vowels, and we will continue to work on our reading fluency and comprehension. We are also starting suffix endings and sentence structure. We are going to wrap up the month with a unit on Dr. Seuss!!! This unit is full of crafts, food, rhyming, reading, and fun!!!
We have counted money and have studied the clock. We can even tell time to the hour and half-hour. Next, we will start with number bonds and fact families. This is a really fun unit and students really enjoy building and bonding numbers with hands on activities. It will lead us right into Singapore Math addition and subtraction facts.
In Social Studies, we will be celebrating Presidents Day!! The students will research Presidents Washington and Lincoln and as a group we will learn all sorts of interesting facts. We will then use our writing skills to tell about all of the details we have found.
Health is on tap in Science. We are learning about how to live a healthy life and to take care of our hearts and teeth. We will look at the different parts of the heart, and the foods we need to eat to stay healthy, and how to prevent cavities. We will continue in Science with a unit on desert animals and how they live and survive.
Finally, in mid February we will be taking our first field trip to the MIM. This field trip is new to kindergarten and we are excited to learn all about the history of music from all over the world.
As you can see this is going to be one busy month!!! We can't wait to get started!!
