FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

Welcome to another fabulous month in second grade! I am so anxious to see all of your Polar Animal Reports as they come in the first week of this month. We look forward to sharing those projects with our families on Feb. 10th!

Language Arts

This month we will be perfecting our punctuation skills as they apply to our writing. We are working on letter writing and report writing this month. Our focus is on nonfiction writing. At home, you can reinforce these skills by writing short daily reports that detail the day’s events or even encourage your child to write a letter to a friend or loved one to send in the mail.

Reading

To prepare for our spring testing, we will be reviewing and reinforcing many reading skills. This month we will focus on analyzing character, plot, setting, cause/effect, graphic visual experiences, and auditory experiences. Most of the reading we will be doing will be concentrated in nonfiction text.

Math

We are in the midst of our measurement unit. We have worked on measuring length, temperature, and weight. We will finish this unit by studying capacity. After measurement is finished, we will be diving into our graphing unit! We will learn different types of graphs as well as how to interpret and create graphs.

Science

This month will be exciting as we delve into the study of the human body. We will be exploring the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and skeletal systems.   We are always looking for experts to come and share their knowledge with our class.
